Statement of No Confidence in Congresswoman Doris Matsui
We, the undersigned faith-based, interfaith, community, allied individuals and organizations of Greater Sacramento, representative of diverse backgrounds and traditions, come together in our shared commitment to justice, human dignity, and accountability to express our loss of confidence in Congresswoman Doris Matsui.
Despite the immense suffering and devastation in Gaza, Congresswoman Matsui has declined to explicitly recognize the atrocities as genocide, denounce AIPAC’s political influence, or call for a full arms embargo on Israel.
Despite repeated meeting requests and consistent calls for meaningful change, our communities have seen little substantive progress on these critical issues.
We are also deeply concerned by recent messaging that has raised questions about Islamophobia.
At a time of rising religious hatred, discrimination, and division, we reject rhetoric that, whether explicitly or through subtle insinuation, reinforces harmful stereotypes or exploits fear and prejudice against any community. Our diverse faith traditions and shared moral values call upon us to stand together against injustice, regardless of whom it affects.
Our communities have long contributed to the Greater Sacramento region through public service, education, business, interfaith cooperation, and civic engagement.
While we come from different religious, cultural, and community backgrounds, we are united in our belief that every human life has dignity and that our elected representatives must be accountable to the people they serve.
For these reasons, we collectively express our loss of confidence in Congresswoman Matsui.
We remain united in our commitment to justice, peace, human dignity, and the protection of innocent lives, both here and abroad.
Signed,
