Protect unbiased education on Palestine in our schools and freedom to protest on campuses
Pro-Israel organizations are trying to pass bills designed to stifle unbiased education on Palestine based on false claims of increased antisemitism in our public schools and universities. These bills will also suppress pro-Palestine advocacy on college and university campuses.
These bills would use our state tax dollars to build support for Israel and prevent unbiased education on the oppression of Palestinians.
SB 1277 – Puts the California Teachers Collaborative for Holocaust and Genocide Education, founded and run by pro-Israel organizations, in charge of training public school teachers and developing curricula on genocide education.
SB 1287 – Seeks to bully university and college students into silence by threatening them if they violate vague new codes of conduct. It is designed to suppress pro-Palestine action on our campuses.
AB 2918 – Proposes an additional layer of expensive state oversight that shifts crucial decisions about curriculum development from the capable hands of teachers and ethnic studies educators to an ill-defined group of “stakeholders” with little or no knowledge of ethnic studies and an anti-Palestinian bias.
AB 2925 – would extend pro-Israel advocates’ strategy by trying to control anti-discrimination training on campuses, focusing this training on targeted groups based on a law enforcement database.
