Open to Letter to Representative Doris Matsui

Dear Representative Matsui-

As your constituents and organizations that represent your constituents, we ask that you call for an immediate halt to all U.S. weapons and aid to Israel.

On July 24, you issued a statement saying that instead of attending Netanyahu’s address to Congress, you “spent time with the loved ones of people taken by Hamas.” We ask that you spend time with the loved ones of the tens of thousands of people killed or being held by the Israeli military in Gaza and the West Bank.

We also ask you to hold a town hall while you are in Sacramento for the August recess to hear from your constituents who, like us, are horrified and sickened by the U.S.-supported genocidal Israeli war against the people of Gaza, a war increasingly extended by Israel against Palestinian civilians in the West Bank.

Also on July 24, you stated that “we must secure an immediate ceasefire that ensures the return of all hostages and addresses the devastating humanitarian crisis for the Palestinian people.”

However, your actions contradict your words. You vote for more weapons and military aid for Israel to continue its genocide, and you vote for cutting off funding for the United Nations agency UNRWA that has been providing aid to Palestinians refugees for decades.

As you know, an estimated 40,000 children, women, and men have been killed in Gaza since October by Israeli forces with U.S. support. And the death toll grows daily from attacks and triggering more suffering and death from preventable causes like hunger and lack of healthcare. Hundreds have been killed in the West Bank in escalating attacks by the Israeli military and illegal settlers.
