Matsui Town Hall 10-23-25

Dear Representative Matsui:

Several members of our organizations attended your October 23, 2025 Town Hall at which:

1) You said that you ”do not believe that Netanyahu should have any more offensive weapons”. Recent polling found over 60% of all voters, and over 70% of democratic voters, oppose sending weapons to Israel.

Please let us know if you will join the dozens of your colleagues who have co-sponsored HR 3565 to limit the transfer of offensive weapons to Israel. And if not, why?

Also please let us know specifically what you are doing to help prevent Israel from getting more offensive weapons.

2) You said in answering a question about the genocide in Gaza that this “is a humanitarian disaster …we’ve got to do something to make sure that we provide the aid that was not provided before. We have to release all of that. That has to be unconditional. Unconditional.”

Please let us know if you will join the growing number of your colleagues in co-sponsoring HR 2411 to release funds to UNWRA, the UN agency that has been most effective in providing aid to Palestinian refugees. And if not, why?

Also, please let us know what you specifically are doing to help aid get into Gaza.

3) You repeatedly stressed that Congress has to work together.

It seems an important way to work together is to sign onto your colleagues’ bills, HR 3565 and HR 2411, to at least attempt to alleviate the genocide in Gaza. Do you agree and if not, why not?

4) In response to the question whether you would stop taking money from the Israel lobby, AIPAC, you said “It doesn’t matter who gives me money. I don’t look at that.”

As you know, constituents are legitimately very concerned about the influence of corporate and other large donations in politics. A growing number of members of Congress and congressional candidates are publically rejecting AIPAC and its far-right agenda. Four Congress members have returned their previously accepted donations from AIPAC.

Please let us know if you will be joining them in returning your AIPAC donations and if not, why not?

5) You referred to the “humanitarian crisis” in Gaza, but would not use the word genocide. A veteran asked you directly if you were a “genocide denier”.  Hundreds of humanitarian and human rights organizations have accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza. Francesca Albanese, the United Nations special rapporteur on the situation in Palestine, has concluded that Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.

Please let us know if you will now call this and genocide and if not, why not?

As you are probably aware, the U.S. has spent at least $21.7 billion in the past two years helping fund Israel’s genocide under both the Biden and Trump administrations. That is money that obviously could be used to fund health care for all – something you say you support.

The genocide in Gaza began under a Democrat administration and the Democrats failure to stop it did affect how people voted in 2024 and may well have cost the Democrats the election.

Please let us know what specific steps you will be taking to stop U.S. aid for Israel’s genocide, apartheid, occupation, and other human rights abuses.

Finally, we again ask that you personally meet with us to discuss these concerns.
