As a Sacramento regional coalition and organizations that advocate for human rights, we urge you to sign onto H.Res. 786, calling for an immediate de-escalation and ceasefire in Israel and occupied Palestine.
We further ask you to issue a public statement calling for: an immediate cease-fire between Israel and Hamas; the release of all humanitarian aid to Gaza; and the release of all hostages including Israelis and others being held in Gaza and Palestinian political prisoners held by Israel, including those in administrative detention.
We condemn all attacks on civilians, a violation of international law. Israel’s response to the attacks of October 7 has been a massive bombardment, killing thousands, many of them children. This is abhorrent and must be stopped. Collective punishment is a war crime and must be reviled by our government, not aided and abetted by the U.S. continuing to give aid and weapons to Israel.
Our government must end its complicity in Israel’s violations of Palestinian human rights, which has gone on for decades, in the form of brutal occupation, closure of Gaza, land theft and frequent violence against civilians and their property, and what has come to be recognized as an apartheid regime.
We know you are hearing from your constituents asking that you support a cease-fire and an end to these vicious and illegal attacks on the Gaza civilian population.
